Increasing requests have been received in recent times regarding travellers who have postponed their rental period from 2020 until 2021. They would like to be advised if it’s recommendable to postpone their camper trip once again until 2022 or cancel it permanently. It appears that the media in some countries indicated that Australia would keep their borders closed until the middle of 2021. We are completely in the dark at this moment on which the information that’s supplied by the media is based. But for sure the information is not correct. A couple of months ago the same media reported with certainty that the borders of the Northern Territory would remain closed for 2021. Nowadays the situation is much different as that state border is open now. So please check the official sources and not the media!
After the second outbreak the Australian government eliminated the virus with a strict focussed approach. During the recent press conference (halfway September 2020) the prime minister indicated that the country wouldn’t allow foreign tourists to enter Australia until Christmas 2020 at least. A period/month after that date is not yet appointed. When Australia opens its borders again it is to be expected it will only be accessible for travellers from countries where the virus is strongly reduced by the government. In this scenario a so called travel bubble will be created where only travellers from safe countries will have access to each other’s country. One thing is for sure and that’s that it’s only possible to apply for an Australian visa when you’re vaccinated and in the possession of an official document which indicates that you are vaccinated.
These are plans that meet with our full approval as travellers can roam around safely. The current sore point is Melbourne. (1 October) The 1st bubble likely shall arise in November 2020 which makes it possible to travel between Australia and New Zealand. At this moment they are looking if it’s possible to add Singapore as well. Please don’t be influenced by the media in your own country when you’ve got an outstanding booking for Australia (or New Zealand) next year. It is much better to consult this website.
Here you can see how the virus was reduced. Looking at the prosperous developments of the vaccine we expect that Australia will be accessible for foreign travellers again in February or March without mandatory quarantine, as long as you are vaccinated.
