What the drive involves

The Bloomfield Track leaves the sealed road at Cape Tribulation and climbs through the rainforest of Daintree National Park to the Bloomfield River at Wujal Wujal, where the road continues toward Cooktown. Some grades are very steep and slippery when wet, and creeks such as Emmagen Creek cross the track. It can close after heavy rain and during the wet season, so check road conditions on the day.

What written approval means for your hire

Written approval means the trip is approved before you collect the camper and noted on your rental agreement. Ask for it when you book: approval can be refused, or come with conditions such as the season, a satellite phone or travel with a second vehicle. Driving there without it breaches the hire terms, and damage on the way is usually not covered.

Questions about the Bloomfield Track

Do I need a four-wheel drive for the Bloomfield Track?

Yes. The steep sections and creek crossings need low range and good clearance, and conventional vehicles are advised not to use the track.

Is the Bloomfield Track open all year?

No. It can close after heavy rain and during the wet season, roughly December to April. Check current road conditions before you set out.

Can I continue to Cooktown?

Yes. From Wujal Wujal the road continues north to join the road into Cooktown, and from there you can return south on the sealed inland route.
