What the crossing involves

The Spirit of Tasmania sails across Bass Strait between Geelong and Devonport at night. You book the camper as a motorhome or campervan with its full length and height, roof tent and anything else on the roof included; wrong measurements can mean an extra charge or not boarding. Check-in closes strictly 45 minutes before departure. The vehicle deck is closed during the voyage, so take what you need for the night with you. Gas bottles travel turned off and tagged, and jerry cans may hold diesel only. Fresh fruit and vegetables, plant products, honey and soil may not be brought into Tasmania.

What permitted means for your hire

Permitted means the conditions of hire allow the camper in Tasmania, and the Bass Strait crossing is part of those conditions. It does not reserve a vehicle, a date or a place on the ship. Mention the crossing when you inquire, so it is confirmed with your quote, and book the Spirit of Tasmania once the camper is confirmed.

Questions about Tasmania

How do I measure the camper for the booking?

Give the total length and height, including the roof tent, roof racks and anything fixed to the back. If the set-up changes after booking, update the measurements before you sail.

Can the gas bottle stay in the camper?

Yes, turned off. A bottle fixed to the camper stays in place, and a loose bottle of up to 25 kg may stay if it is secured upright and within its test date. Bottles are tagged; one that does not meet the conditions is held until you disembark, or disposed of if its test date has passed.

Can I go to the camper during the crossing?

No. The vehicle deck is closed for the whole voyage, so pack an overnight bag and any medication before you leave the camper.
