Start with the route and hire conditions

Vehicle capability, current road access and the camper's permission are separate checks. A road being open does not mean the camper is allowed on it. Describe your intended route, including side trips, when discussing the offer.

Make the handover useful

  • Ask the depot staff to demonstrate the vehicle controls and the driving modes relevant to your hire.
  • Work through opening, closing and securing the camping setup.
  • Identify the equipment supplied and ask the depot staff how it should be used.
  • Check water, fuel, power and any towing instructions for the actual vehicle.
  • Save the correct assistance contacts and ask what information to provide when calling.

Prepare before departure

Follow the instructions you receive at the depot for technical procedures and vehicle checks. Raise questions about unfamiliar equipment before leaving the depot. This page is a planning checklist, not a substitute for vehicle-specific training.

Check changing conditions

Look up current road and park information for the places you intend to travel. Check again as the journey approaches and when your plans change. Confirm access and booking requirements with the relevant authority or operator, then check the route against your camper's hire conditions.

Open the official sources below for current information; this guide does not display live closures. Main Roads WA primarily covers its own road network, so check local roads with the relevant local authority as well. For regions outside this list, use the road authority and park manager for your actual destination.

Know who to contact

Keep the roadside assistance instructions with the vehicle documents. Australia Campers can help with booking questions; the assistance instructions tell you who to call about the vehicle during the hire.
