What the drive involves

Dalhousie Springs is in the far north of South Australia, reached on unsealed roads from Oodnadatta or from Mount Dare, the last fuel stop before the Simpson Desert. The main spring is a large, warm artesian pool you can swim in, surrounded by palms and paperbarks, with a campground beside it. Many Simpson Desert crossings start or end here, so the roads see more traffic in the cooler months.

What written approval means for your hire

Written approval means the trip is approved before you collect the camper and noted on your rental agreement. Ask for it when you book: approval can be refused, or come with conditions such as the season, a satellite phone or travel with a second vehicle. Driving there without it breaches the hire terms, and damage on the way is usually not covered.

Being allowed in the Simpson Desert does not by itself cover the roads to Dalhousie Springs or Mount Dare. Check that the camper is approved for each part of your route.
