Where it fits

Kalbarri sits on the west coast at the Murchison River mouth, north of Geraldton. It can form part of the coastal section between Perth and Shark Bay. The town and the national park’s inland and coastal areas are separate stops to plan, rather than one attraction beside the through-road.

Choose what to explore

  • Inland gorge country: consider the Skywalk, Nature’s Window and the Z Bend lookout according to current trail information and your group’s needs.
  • Coastal cliffs: Red Bluff, Natural Bridge and Island Rock offer a different view of the park.
  • The river mouth and town: leave time between park visits for your own pace and practical stops.

Allow time for your visit

For an itinerary with both inland lookouts and coastal stops, consider separate outings rather than fitting both around a long onward drive. Add time if walking is a priority. This is a planning choice based on activities, not a universal minimum-night requirement.

Practical planning

DBCA recommends the cooler May–October period for hikes and publishes heat-related trail restrictions. Check the current park page for closures, trail difficulty, fees and preparation before choosing a walk. A scenic lookout visit and a longer gorge hike need different plans.

Choose a recognized campground or caravan park for your overnight stay and check its booking conditions separately from park entry.
